During any compatibility check (including initial check or any time you change your phone, SIM, or phone number), you must uninstall the following Cydia apps: 3g Unrestrictor, My3G, FaceBreak, iPhone Delivery, or other things that affect phone calls, SMS, or FaceTime®.

Important note for SAM users

SAM (Subscriber Artificial Module) appears to cause problems with MiTime while it is ENABLED. Only use SAM to get legitimate iTunes® activation and then you should uninstall it via Cydia. It is no longer necessary because the only time you'd need it again is after a restore. Alternatively, you can disable it, but I don't recommend that because it can cause problems if it gets turned back on and you'll end up asking me why your FaceTime isn't working. :-)

Those who activate using legit SIM cards (like an AT&T SIM) do not have to worry about this.

Wrong carrier bundle in use

Your phone is using the wrong carrier bundle. Check in Settings->General->About and make sure the "Carrier" entry says something like "Carrier 7.0", "Carrier 8.0", or "Carrier 9.0". The number is not important.

In the next version, this will be a warning, but for 90% of the people this message does indicate a problem that will result in FaceTime not activating.

SOLUTION: You need to eject and re-insert your SIM at the SpringBoard and check the About screen again.

Stuck at Check Compatibility screen

If you have tested compatibility using the "Test" button and it never moves on to the Compatible screen as shown in the instructions, you might be incompatible. Here are some causes and solutions.

1) Push notifications must be enabled and working on your phone. Sometimes push notifications stop working occasionally when operating on cellular data.

SOLUTION: Temporarily disable cellular data in Settings->General->Network and use WiFi. You can re-enable it after FaceTime activation.

2) Some Cydia apps appear to affect your ability to activate.

SOLUTION: Uninstall things like 3g Unrestrictor, My3G, FaceBreak, iPhoneDelivery, or other things that affect phone calls, SMS, or FaceTime®. These can be re-installed after FaceTime activation.

3) Your carrier might be blocking inbound international texts.

SOLUTION: Please check your phone plan and/or carrier and verify you can receive international texts. You do not need international texting after FaceTime activation unless you change your phone # or SIM card.

4) Your carrier is not allowing the SMS to get through (TIGO in Latin America & South America).

SOLUTION: None at this time.

FaceTime® Troubleshooting (after activation)

Symptoms:

1) FaceTime® does not connect or says everyone is not available.
2) FaceTime® usually DOES connect when you call the person first, then use the FaceTime® button on the phone screen.
3) Your push notifications may not be working when tested in MiTime

The problem is your push notifications probably aren't working and that is because of your cellular data settings. Either fix your cellular data APN and username / passwords, or turn off Cellular Data in Settings. Turning off cellular data has been a confirmed fix for two people so far. They can now make direct FaceTime® calls without making a phone call first.

The issue is that EDGE is not reliable. Push notifications are used for incoming and outgoing calls I have found and if they aren't working properly, you won't be able to do either. If you turn off cell data, push works over WiFi and your connections get established very quickly.

If you are trying to call someone with broken push notifications due to them using it over EDGE, the same situation applies. You may not be able to reach them.

This issue usually doesn't affect AT&T and international users because 3G is about 10x more reliable than EDGE. But since we are stuck at using EDGE on T-Mobile, you will have to weigh the options of using cellular data or not.

On T-Mobile, sometimes EDGE breaks and you will lose data connectivity for 15 minutes to a half an hour. During that time, push notifications will not be working and you can't make incoming or outgoing calls.

Anyone who gets immediate FaceTime call failed needs to check the following:

1) Make sure you are dialing a number in *international* calling format. In the US, we can dial numbers with the 10 digit #. Other countries need to dial the full number or set it for the contact they are dialing. Ex: +447624800500 (there might be a few exceptions to this rule)

2) Make sure your cell data is configured properly and your push notifications are working. Cell data should be turned OFF for T-Mobile users who don't pay for cell internet.

3) Try calling the person first, then using the FaceTime button during the call. If this works, it is certainly a problem with your cellular data settings.
